Heat treatment involves the use of heating or chilling, normally to extreme temperatures, to achieve a desired result, such as the hardening or softening of a material. It is noteworthy that while the term heat treatment applies only to processes where the heating and cooling are done for the specific purpose of altering properties intentionally, heating and cooling often occur incidentally during other manufacturing processes, such as hot forming or welding.
Plating is a surface covering in which a metal is deposited on a conductive surface. Plating has been done for hundreds of years, but it is also critical for modern technology. Plating is used to decorate objects, for corrosion inhibition, to improve solder ability, to harden, to improve wear ability, to reduce friction, to improve paint adhesion, to alter conductivity, for radiation shielding, and for other purposes.
Custom screw-machined products require a process outside of a normal length, width, head, or threads. If a company requires more precision screws in unique materials, most often these are custom screws. Screws and fasteners are used in medical, aerospace, and defense applications due to their complexity and precision needs and will often be a custom job.
